Our story

Before Pentecost, Jesus’ first disciples prayed together as they waited for the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:14). Prayer is where our story begins, too.

Around 1907–1908, weekly prayer meetings in a Marmion Street home drew people from Perth, Subiaco and Claremont, across church denominations. Lilian Wooster Greaves’ accounts tell of healing, provision and deepening spiritual life. A Sunday school followed, growing from 34 children in the front room onto the verandah.

In a letter dated 9 July 1907, Mrs Fox Angelo proposed buying land. From those beginnings, our invitation continues: come, pray with us and share in God’s work.

What we believe

St Philips stands within the historic evangelical tradition of the Anglican Church.

St Philips is part of the one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We hold the historic Christian faith expressed in the Apostles’ Creed and the Nicene Creed, and we belong to the Anglican Diocese of Perth.

At the centre of our faith is Jesus Christ: crucified, risen and Lord. We believe the gospel is good news for every person and every part of life.

For a fuller expression of this Anglican and evangelical faith, read the statement of faith and declarations from EFAC Australia.

Ancient faith, Local church

Jesus is at the centre of our life together. We open the Bible to hear God’s word, gather in worship and prayer, and depend on the Holy Spirit to help us become more like Jesus.

A church family across the generations

From children discovering Jesus to people who have followed him for many years, we have much to learn from each other. Sunday worship, shared meals, small groups and serving together are all part of our life as a church.
